Harken Health App Design

Harken Health was an internal startup within UnitedHealth Group, built to test a new model of healthcare. Harken operated on a business model where users’ care was tied to a primary health center, as opposed to a primary care giver. This app represented all of the basic communications and payment tools a user would need, sidestepping feature bloat to ensure a great product could be launched quickly.

Just Enough Navigation

We designed the main menu to have as few options as possible; Get care, Messages and Account. Users belonged to one primary location and associated care team, so many of the complex search features you might expect in a healthcare app were able to be eliminated completely.

Booking Care Easily

Instead of trying to fit into one specific doctor’s schedule, with Harken you worked with any member of your primary care team without preference. Making an appointment was as simple as being connected to your primary location’s phone line to find out what opening was available next.

Simplified Billing

Harken’s payment model operated like a subscription, so we were able to provide an incredibly simple payment system and billing information within the app.

Connecting with your care team

The messages section of the app offered a very simple way to connect with your care team, see appointment follow-ups and talk with Harken customer service. Speaking with your care team functioned more like direct messaging, while connecting with Harken was more like email.
